1993
A boy from the suburbs
Charlie was born on October 14, 1993, in Illinois. Friends remember a restless, curious kid who read more than he was asked to and argued about it afterwards.
2012
An idea at eighteen
Instead of the path everyone expected, he started organising. What began as conversations on campus lawns turned into a national student movement built almost entirely on showing up and taking questions.
2010s
The open microphone
His signature was simple and almost old-fashioned: put a microphone in front of anyone who disagreed and let them go first. Thousands of those exchanges were recorded, and millions watched them.
2021
Husband and father
He married Erika, and fatherhood changed the shape of his days. He talked less about winning arguments and more about what he was leaving behind for his children.

The day it stopped
Charlie was assassinated while doing the thing he had done thousands of times before — standing in the open, taking questions from a crowd. He was 31 years old.

What remains
